About Me

You may have guessed, my name is Steve. I’m a runner, and I’m a run coach. I’m Steve The Run Coach.

Before we go any further, thanks for visiting my site! I know there’s a lot of stuff on the internet these days, so the fact you’re spending your time here is a great honour for me!

What’s My Deal?

My story is pretty similar to a lot of people’s really. When I first started long distance running it was nothing serious, a few jogs here and there mainly. It was a few years later, after signing up for a half-marathon when I was super hungover and in need of a challenge, that I really realised I truly loved it.

Fast forward a bit and I got diagnosed with an auto-immune illness called Ankylosing Spondylitis. It’s kind of a bit like arthritis in that it causes a lot of pain and swelling in my joints, and a lot of stiffness in the morning (get your mind out of the gutter).

Although I have no delusions of grandeur, feeling that this kept from from realising my Olympic dream, it caused me to be on the sidelines for a lengthy spell. Although there’s not an out-and-out cure, I am now on some fantastic medication and have been back running “full-time” for quite a while now.

During my time out from running I read, studied, and consumed everything running related, leading me to completing my UK Athletics coaching qualification so I can help runners from all situations reach the heights they feel they are capable of, in an enjoyable, straight-forward and completely personalised way.

Upon returning to running I had to learn to adapt my training schedule, sessions, and mentality to get the most out of running, discarding the usual free online advice almost entirely as it was no longer applicable to me. I feel that adaptability is the most important skill a coach can have to ensure you are successful in your running goals and is the platform that my coaching style is built on.
